“Black Tears” Chapter Excerpts

Chapter 6 – Page 102 through 103

“Grandma. Grandma!” Loretta Lynn screams out. Hattie Mae ignores her and starts walking toward the kitchen. Lorretta Lynn is fed up. She just can’t take it anymore. Her heart is racing as she slowly eases up from the bed. She grabs her housecoat and gingerly puts it on. She takes a look in the dresser mirror and thinks she looks exactly how she feels. She brushes those thoughts away and opens up her bedroom door.

She needs to confront Hattie Mae, and it’s happening now. She creeps to the kitchen and notices Hattie Mae sipping on coffee and reading her Bible. Lorretta Lynn decides to let her have it.

“Grandma! Grandma!” She screams, and Hattie Mae looks at her like she has grown two heads.

Chapter 14 – Page 183

“Oh, hi Mister. Do you think you can take me to the hospital to see my grandmother? I don’t have a lot of money, but I really need to see her. She’s in the Intensive Care Unit,” she says, with a pitiful look.

“How much do you have, young lady?” The cab driver looks at her desperate expression.

“Oh, I only have a few dollars. I am a poor college student.”

He hesitates and then motions for her to get in the cab. She jumps in, and he starts driving. They make it to the hospital entrance, and she notices Billy Ray and Ms. Penelope walking out. Billy Ray is crying hysterically, and Ms. Penelope is hugging him and crying. Lorretta Lynn screams, “Stop! Stop! That’s my little brother over there!”

The cab driver brakes, and Lorretta Lynn jumps out of the car. She runs over to Billy Ray and starts shouting:

“Where’s Grandma? Where’s Grandma, Billy Ray?”

“Grandma’s gone, Big Sister! Grandma is gone!” Billy Ray cries, and Lorretta Lynn embraces him.

Drug Monster

I’m a very destructive drug monster
Do you know I’m on the prowl?
I already live in your precious area
I also live in your cousin’s country town!

I’m an extremely dangerous species
Do you know I travel fast?
A lot of people decided to try me
Guess what…I took their cash!

I already caught some of your brothers
I caught some of your precious sisters too!
I turned your sister into a prostitute
I made your brother sell his business suit!

I made your mother neglect her children
I caused your father to commit a crime
I made your aunt become homeless
I caused your uncle to lose his mind!

You better run fast if you ever see me
Don’t dare let anyone introduce you!
Remember I’m a very fatal DRUG MONSTER and you definitely don’t want me to CATCH YOU!

Ouch

Ouch can be a good thing
Ouch can be a bad thing too!
Ouch can be very painful
Ouch can be a growing tool!

Ouch can breed opportunities
Ouch can close doors to!
Ouch can be a motivator
Ouch can get the best of you!

Don’t let ouch make you give up
Even though it may really hurt you!
Remember ouch can be a good thing
It’s all about your ouch attitude!
